Removed bottom cover, located leak at float switch, removed and replaced float switch kit. The toughest part of the repair was removing the Float & Retainer Assembly (in the interior of the machine tank) which broke when I pushed it back and pulled it straight up as suggested in the service manual. • Not dispensing water

Replaced water valve to fix water not going to door, easy enough to do. Replaced icemaker which was corroded inside the cube-forming trays causing black flakes to come off stuck to the ice cubes, and was also leaking causing the water to drip into the ice bucket making one giant ice cube. Ten-minute job, which took an hour and a half. this is a 25-year-old unit and I only had access to the plug on the back of the icemaker, the other end was behind the rear wall. • Noisy

I ordered a new solenoid and when it arrived, I installed it as follows: I cut the power to the refrigerator. I then pulled off the rubber boot (and it's plastic frame) that covers the water switch. Then I removed the bezel that covers the front of the ice maker controls by pulling it straight out. Then I removed the four screws found on the assembly under the bezel. First, I had to remove the cover plate on the back of the refrigerator. Then I unscrewed the water inlet valve from the rest of the assembly. I then unplugged the electrical contacts by pulling them apart. There are two fittings on the valve. One has a nut on it. That one just needs the nut unscrewed, after which the pex tubing can be pulled out. The other one has a pex connection. I cleaned all the jet nozzles with a toothpick and a pipe cleaner to remove the hard water deposits. I then replace the ring bearing under the bottom spray wand and the ring bearing under the upper spray wand. I also replaced the smaller radial ring bearing. Although none of them looked overly worn, it doesn't take much to cause the spray wands to spray inadequately. Then, I replaced the float and washer assembly. • No hot or cold water
• Will not fill with water
• Will not stop filling with water

The new GE washers come with a fill valve that has a 1/8" hole for the hot water inlet. This is probably for energy savings or something. So, I installed the older style GE fill valve on my new machine. Since the older style has larger inlet holes for both hot and cold water, it fixed my problem easily. Removed some screws, opened the top of the wash machine, unplugged some wires to remove the part, plugged the wires back into the mew part, put the new water valve into place, secured the water valve with the screw, put the top back on the wash machine, and replaced all remaining screws!
