Simply lift up the old filter and cap and discard it. The new assembly simply pushes down and on to the agitator base. It stays in place by clicking over a raised perimeter rib on the base. This is the easiest repair (short of screwing in a light bulb) that one could do. The hardest part was to identify which parts I needed to purchase. I looked up a YouTube video first to know how to take my washing machine apart. It was an Appliance Parts Pros Video. Very helpful! I replaced the mode shifter, water pump, washers, agitator spline, hub nut, tub bearing, tub seal and drive belt. The hub nut DID NOT want to come off. I cut it off with my Dremel and chipped out the beveled segment with a heavy duty screw driver and 3# hammer. Had to be very careful to not damage the hub assembly. I replaced the entire agitator (my appliance agitator could only be replaced in one part not the upper part only). It was super easy but one thing....the video on the website was not helpful because my maytag washer is older and does NOT have a screw down inside the agitator but has one 1/4 inch hex nut on the side down by the base. Good for me though because all I had to do was unscrew the nut, put the new agitator on, tighten the new nut and DONE!! Read more

It was fairly simple, unbolted the agitator and pulled the old one out then put in the new...although when when a load became unbalanced the rocking motion slowly strips the bolt, I would suggest if replacing this unit also order the bolt. I also bought loctite dew to the fact that the bolt was stripped. Read more

I had replaced the Agitator cams a couple of times already due to my brother-in-law overloading the machine which stripped the teeth off of the cams. I also noticed the agitator seemed to 'wobble' and made 'knocking' noises quite a bit. A buddy of mine gave me a washer and said if you can fix it you can have it, It doesn't spin. I tried running a spin cycle and found that it did try to spin but was very noisy. I disassembled the washing machine and found that the tub seal had gone out and took out the bearings with it so I ordered a new tub and seal kit and while I waited for that I proceeded to disassemble the rest of the washing machine and clean everything so when the new parts arrived it was ready and waiting. My wife noticed that our washing machine was making a terrible rumbling noise and seemed to be out of balance all of the time. The plastic ridges on the inside of the washplate were stripped. New washplate solved the problem. This washer is barely 3 years old, so I guess I can expect to be doing this again, but better than buying a new washer. Read more

There was a single bolt through the bottom of the agitator that connected it to the tub. Undoing the bolt to remove the broken base of the old agitator, placing the bolt in the base of the new agitator, aligning and tightening the bolt. Read more
