Rose for Model Number TGF362BBBA Hi! I have an old Tappan range TGF362BBBA that is not heating for the Bake cycle. When I press Preheat the broiler ignites for about 10 minutes, then goes off and the oven igniter turns yellowish orange, and then it emits a faint smell of gas. It hasn't been working correctly for a while now, but before I would just open the oven door and it would make a poof sound and then ignite. I also noticed that the broiler flame seems so big, not sure if that means anything or not. I just wasn't sure if I should just replace the oven igniter, or could it be something more expensive?? Thank you!!
Answer Hello Rose. Test for 3.0-3.6 volts AC at the gas safety valve with the igniter turned on. If the voltage is there, you have a bad safety valve. If the voltage is low, you have a weak igniter and the igniter will need to be replaced. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
