Gary Our Frigidaire refrigerator has an ice maker but no water dispenser. The ice maker has started making ice that appears dirty. The ice has an ash-like film on the surface and through the ice. I changed the ULTRAWF filter 2 days ago, but I'm not sure if the dirty ice began then or if it was happening shortly before I changed the filter. What would cause this?
Answer Gary, If you didn't flush the new filter before you installed it, there could be residual charcoal powder in the filter which will appear in the cubes. If that's the case, the debris in the cubes should subside in a day or two. The other possibility is the ice maker mold has a build up of calcium, hard water, etc. which may need to be cleaned away, or the lining in the mold has started to deteriorate and is flaking off into the cubes. You'll need to remove the ice maker or use a mirror to inspect the mold, when it's empty. Read More... Answered by AppliancePartsPros.com | Wednesday, November 5, 2014
