Daniel for Model Number GSD3425F00BB

About 1 year ago, I replaced the pump assembly. In the past couple months, our dishwasher gradually started cleaning poorly. Today, I removed the screens to clean and check for any clogs. I found the rear screen somewhat clogged with a piston valve almost totally blocked with buildup. After cleaning the valve, screen, and other areas, it seems to be cleaning much better. However, I noticed the upper spray arm not turning. I checked the water level and it was about 1/2 inch or more below the top of notch on the float cover. I added water up to just above this mark (about 1 inch below the heating element). The upper arm still does not turn. The upper arm seems sloppy to me - turns okay but does not spin level to ground. Instead, it sort of leans down on one end of the arm versus the other end. Is this normal for these arms? Also, do you have to remove the dishwasher to replace the arm.

Answer

Hello Daniel, The spray arm will be floppy and will normally not set level. The water pressure from the circulating pump pressurizes it and makes it spin. The issue you are describing sounds like the "D" valve in the pump WD26X10013 is not holding the pressure properly. This is normally caused by pre-rinsing the dishes and over soaping. This allows the chemical reaction produced from the detergent coming up to 140°F, to attack the rubber parts in the dishwasher. This will cause part of the water pressure to be lost through the drain.
