Brian for Model Number PFSS6PKXASS Hi, I have a GE Profile PFSS6PKXASS. On the left door it has what's called an "ASM French", also called a french assembly which is a flapper attached to the door. When the left door is opened this flapper should remain "flush" with the door and not swing out. If it does swing out it hits the right door when closing. This flapper assembly on my fridge is somehow broken and isn't remaining flush as it should, and is swinging out when the door is opened. Ordering an entire new French assembly shouldn't be necessary. My questions are what mechanism keeps that flapper flush, what parts are involved in that mechanism, and could you send me the instructions on how to repair it? I ask that you please, please send illustrations or images if at all necessary to give a more detailed explanation. Thank you, Brian
Answer Brian, The issue with the French assembly is the spring that is on it. The spring becomes weak and does not allow the flapper to sit flush against the door. The spring is not available as an individual part and the French assembly would need to be replaced. There are 1 or 2 screws holding the center plate in place when the flapper is in the open position. Remove the screws and lift the plate up and off the clips that are holding the top and bottom.
