The High Limit Thermostat is an OEM part for GE dryers. It is a safety device that prevents the dryer from overheating by cutting off power to the heating element if the temperature exceeds a safe limit. This helps protect the dryer and the user from potential fire hazards.

Causes of a bad high limit thermostat can include electrical faults, repeated exposure to high temperatures, or wear and tear over time. When the thermostat fails, it may either keep the dryer from heating or cause it to overheat.

Symptoms of a bad high limit thermostat include:

  • The dryer not heating at all
  • The dryer overheating and shutting down mid-cycle
  • Clothes taking longer than usual to dry
  • The dryer running but not producing any heat

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Dan, What is the issue, No heat ? Are you using a multimeter ? In that case you would remove the wires from the thermostat and check for a "closed" circuit across the terminals on the thermostat. Without a meter, you would have to "bypass each thermostat until the heater comes on( remove the wires from the thermostat and attach them to each other, and do the same to each thermostat individually( a lot of plugging and unplugging of the power cord) until the heater illuminates/heats. It would be better, in the long run, to get a multimeter, and test the circuits. You will need to raise the dryer top, in order to access the componets and test them, either way. All the heat components are located on the heater housing assembly at the rear of the drum of the cabinet interior. Good Luck.
