The Defrost Sensor Assembly is an OEM part for LG refrigerators. This integral component plays a key role in monitoring the temperature within the refrigerator's freezer section, particularly during the defrost cycle. It ensures that the defrost system activates and deactivates at appropriate temperatures to maintain efficient operation and prevent frost buildup.

Symptoms of a faulty defrost sensor assembly include:

  • Excessive frost or ice accumulation in the freezer
  • Refrigerator or freezer section experiencing temperature fluctuations
  • Defrost cycle not running or running too frequently

Causes of defrost sensor failure often involve damage from moisture or ice, electrical faults, or degradation over time, which can lead to inaccurate temperature readings and improper defrost cycle regulation.

This OEM LG part is also compatible with Sears/Kenmore.

Answer

Forest, it would be recommended that the compressor and condenser fan are inspected to identify if they are operating or not. If they are, the condenser coils would need to be checked for dust congestion and cleaned if it is clogged up with dust. If it is not blocked up with dust, the next step would be to check the evaporator to identify if there is a frost pattern at all. If there is not a frost pattern or a partial frost pattern, there may be a sealed system issue. If there is an ice blockage around the evaporator, the defrost sensor 6615JB2005H and heater 5300JK1005K would need to be tested.
