By: Whirlpool
Part Number: OEM17997573
Manufacturer Part Number: W10850446

This magnetron capacitor is the microwave high-voltage capacitor that helps supply the magnetron with the pulse of energy needed to produce heat. Replacing a failing capacitor restores normal heating performance and reduces arcing or loud humming. What it does

  • Stores and releases the high-voltage pulse required by the magnetron so the microwave can generate heat.
  • Prevents unstable magnetron operation that can cause weak or no heating.
  • Common symptoms of a failing capacitor: oven runs but doesn't heat, intermittent heating, loud buzzing/humming, or visible arcing inside the cavity.
  • A failed capacitor can also cause blown internal fuses or tripped circuits.
What's included
  • One capacitor.
Install notes
  • Disconnect power and verify the appliance is completely de-energized before servicing.
  • Capacitors can hold dangerous charge; discharge the capacitor safely with an insulated tool.

Hello Pbycatalina. The capacitor test depends on the meter your using as well. It is best to test these with an analog meter TJMA-12814. If it is still reading 9.98 ohms, and not returning to infinite, then the capacitor needs to be replaced. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter for the testing procedures. Hope this helps. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html
