Howard for Model Number GS6SHAXMQ00 I have a Whirlpool GS6SHAXMQ00 side by side from 2004. I'm getting ice buildup on the evaporator in the freezer constantly and need to manually defrost once a month. I've replaced the thermostat and the heater cable and still have the same problem. So, is there a way to put the unit into a forced defrost? OR is there a defrost timer on this model that I'm missing?
Answer Howard, the main control WPW10135090 / OEM24062230 in the compressor section would be responsible for the defrost cycle. If there is not a damaged wire in the liner, the control would be the cause of failure. Unfortunately, the control has been discontinued by the manufacturer and is no longer available. Read More...
