Bryan C for Model Number MSD2756GES

Hi, Our side-by-side Whirlpool Plus is not cooling - it is holding temperature but the freezer is above 18F and the refrigerator side is cool but not reaching proper temperature. Ice maker is no longer making ice as the temp is not low enough to start the ice maker. I checked the condenser fan motor under the refrigerator, it is running. Cleaned out the bottom of the refrigerator from dust and dirt. Seals on both doors look good. The next thing I checked was the freezer compartment - especially the condenser coils. When I opened the area there was no frost on the coils but a huge ice block on the inlet copper line coming into the refrigerator - return loop (roughly were the defrost heater assembly sensor attaches). I unplugged the refrigerator and got out the air dryer. Cleared the ice out and plugged the refrigerator back in. Waited about 4 hours and temp returned to the original setting of ~40F (not good). I have been investigating all of the thoughts/inputs from other repairs on your website. From the input it seems the defrost controller board and the defrost heater assembly are the potential cause of the ice block and refrigerator freezer not reaching temperature. I welcome your input and what else could possibly cause this problem. I have already ordered the 2 parts above and am waiting arrival.

Answer

Hello Bryan. If the freezer is warm and the condenser fan is running and the coils are clean, you will need an HVAC tech. It sounds like the sealed system is failing on the unit. They will need to look for a restriction and check the Freon level. Thank you.
