Vernon for Model Number Medx655dw1 Is it possible to change my dryer from left opening to right opening without spending over $80 for a new door and handle. Why was this advertised as simple to convert when it requires ordering and installing a new door and handle?
Answer Hello Vernon, As per the installation instructions: 1. Place the towel on top of the dryer to avoid damaging the surface. NOTE: Magnetized screw driver is helpful. 2. Open the dryer door. Remove bottom screws from the dryer cabinet side of hinges. Loosen (do not remove) top screws from the dryer cabinet side of hinges. 3. Lift door until top screws in dryer cabinet are in large part of hinge slot. Pull door forward off screws. Set door (handle side up) on top of the dryer. Remove top screws from the dryer cabinet. 4. Remove screws attaching hinges to the door. 5. Remove screws at the top, bottom, and side of the door (4 screws) that hold the inner and outer door together. Holding the door over the towel on the dryer, grasp sides of the outer door, and lift to separate it from the inner door. Set outer door aside. NOTE: Do not pry apart with a putty knife or screwdriver. Do not pull on the door seal or plastic door catches. 6. Remove the door catch, bezel, and plug from the inside of the inner door by squeezing and pulling/pushing them. Place the door catch, bezel, and plug on the sides opposite from where they were. 7. Rotate the outer door 180 ° and set it back down on the inner door. Reattach outer door panel to inner door panel so handle is on the side where hinges were just removed. Insert 4 door screws. 8. Flip door over so handle side is down. 9. Reattach door hinges to dryer door so that the larger hole is at the bottom of the hinge. 10. Remove door strike and door strike plug from dryer cabinet. Insert the door strike into the door strike plug hole and secure with the screw. Insert door strike plug into original door strike hole and secure with the screw. 11. Use a small, flat-blade screwdriver to gently remove 4 hinge hole plugs on the left side of the dryer cabinet. Transfer plugs into hinge holes on the opposite side of the dryer cabinet. 12. NOTE: Two people may be needed to reinstall the door. Insert screws into the bottom holes on the left side of the dryer cabinet. Tighten screws halfway. Position door so large end of door hinge slot is over screws. Slide door up so screws are in the bottom of slots. Tighten screws. Insert and tighten top screws in hinges. 13. Close the door and check that the door strike aligns with the door catch. If it is needed, slide door catch left or right within the slot to adjust alignment. Read More...
