Ron for Model Number A608 Gentlemen: Machine is 1976 vintage Maytag, and works fine except for worsening imbalance/vibration. With the lid open, I can see the basket begin to spin perfectly centered, then start to wobble as speed increases. I just replaced the damper pads. However, the washer is still just as unbalanced on spin, even when empty. Transmission oil has leaked out over recent years. Crazy idea: Is it possible that the weight of the lost oil has affected the balance of the spinning transmission? Other than that, I can only think of a bushing/bearing problem. Any suggestions? Thank you very much. --Ron M.
Answer Hello Ron, the inner tub has a concrete balance ring for balancing unbalanced clothes loads, once up to speed it will center itself, however, the basket has to sit correctly centered on the mounting stem, otherwise, it will cause the outer tub to shake in spin. The damper pads are greased after install, the whole tub assembly being held by the springs is able to move around as it spins but not shake. Suggest you check the basket position on the mounting stem and adjust as needed. The missing oil will not affect spin. Read More... Answered by AppliancePartsPros.com | Monday, November 25, 2019
