The Sump is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. Located at the bottom of the dishwasher tub, the sump collects dirty water and food particles during the wash cycle. It then pumps the wastewater out through the drain hose. Over time, the plastic sump can deteriorate or crack, compromising its ability to properly collect and drain water. 

Symptoms of a bad sump include:

• Puddles or flooding inside the dishwasher tub 
• Water leaks from around or below the tub area
• Inability to completely drain water after the cycle
• Reduced water pressure during the wash 

Causes of a deteriorated sump are generally just normal wear and tear from continuous use and exposure to hot water and chemicals over many years.
