The Thermistor Kit is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators and freezers. This component plays a role in monitoring and controlling the temperature within your appliance. A thermistor is a type of resistor whose resistance changes with temperature changes, allowing the refrigerator's control system to accurately maintain the desired cooling levels based on the readings it provides.

Causes of a bad thermistor can include wear and tear from constant use, exposure to extreme temperatures that can damage the component, or electrical issues such as short circuits.

Symptoms of a bad Thermistor Kit include:

  • The refrigerator or freezer is too cold or not cold enough
  • The appliance cycles on and off more frequently or for longer periods than normal
  • Unexplained changes in temperature settings

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

Dominic for Model Number GS6NBEXRA01

Yes I have a question about my freezer and refrigerator refrigerator side keeps freezing up I replace the thermistor in the refrigerator side and temperature control unit and was wondering if there is a thermistor in the freezer because after replacing the parts on the refrigerator side it is still freezing on the refrigerator side the dampener is working fine too so I thought a thermistor in your freezer could be causing the problem just wondering where I could be located.

Answer

Dominic, If there is a thermistor on this unit for the freezer it would be either located under the damper as it goes into the freezer or on the wall of the freezer compartment. This issue sounds more likely that the control board would be the issue with both sections freezing.
