Manufacturer Part Number: 12002355

The Thermistor Kit is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators and freezers. This component plays a role in monitoring and controlling the temperature within your appliance. A thermistor is a type of resistor whose resistance changes with temperature changes, allowing the refrigerator's control system to accurately maintain the desired cooling levels based on the readings it provides.

Causes of a bad thermistor can include wear and tear from constant use, exposure to extreme temperatures that can damage the component, or electrical issues such as short circuits.

Symptoms of a bad Thermistor Kit include:

  • The refrigerator or freezer is too cold or not cold enough
  • The appliance cycles on and off more frequently or for longer periods than normal
  • Unexplained changes in temperature settings

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

Sonny for Model Number ABR2222FES

Troubleshooting in progress with my Amana fridge that is not cooling at all. Replaced and programmed board according to spec sheets. Compressor seems to be running with the vibration and all the fans. Next to check is the THERMISTOR. Spec sheet noted that at 77 degrees, reading should be at 10K ohms. I'm currently reading 8.2K ohms on refrigerator and 17.6K ohms on freezer thermistor with 76 degrees inside the cabinet. Could this be my issue for not colling? Kindly assist so I can order this parts. Thanks Sonny

Answer

Sonny, based on the information provided, the thermistors are out of range for the temperature and would need to be replaced. However, as the compressor and fans are operating, the evaporator would need to be inspected for a frost pattern. If there is not a frost pattern on the evaporator but the compressor has been operating continuously, there would also be a sealed system failure that would require an EPA-certified technician to diagnose and repair it.
