Gretchen for Model Number MBF 2255KEB (Maytag) Hi, I hope you can help me detect if this is what I need. Maytag is only 5 years old. About 2 years ago I replaced the control board because the freezer was freezing up and not defrosting. It worked, hence I plugged it into a good surge protector after reading they are prone to blowing after power surges. Now, am facing similar problem again. Freezer is too cold even on a low setting, not seeing tons of ice YET. So last week I replaced the little defrost thermostat that was clipped onto the copper line in the back of the freezer. I talked to an appliance man here who said sounds like the control board, but its only two years old. Any chance it is the thermistor or something else before I spend $100 on ANOTHER stinkin board??? Thanks for any help you can offer.
Answer Hello Gretchen. You will need to test the themister and see if it is good. Here is a chart to go by when testing. If it is out of range, it will need to be replaced. Thermistor Temperature Resistance 77°F..................10,000 ohms 36°F..................29,500 ohms 0°F....................86,300 ohms You can test this with a multi-meter MA-DM1. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. Hope this helps. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
