Larry for Model Number Maytag A8520 Hello, My Maytag A8520 washer will not agitate, but will spin post rinse cycle. I recently replaced the belts (less than 6 months ago) because the washer wasn't draining. That fixed the problem. For my current problem, when I grab the pulley wheel under the main tub and try to move it, there's some play before I can see the tub start to move (about 60 degrees of play). And, when I manually spin the pulley clockwise (facing down into the tub), the tub will stop moving while I'm still moving the pulley. What's strange is this does not happen when I spin the pulley counter-clockwise. Does this sound like I need to replace the transmission? Thanks, Larry
Answer Larry, When you turn the drive pulley clockwise the agitator should oscillate back and forth. When you turn the drive pulley counter clockwise there will be "some play" in the pulley, then it will "lock" and the transmission and tub will start to rotate in the spin direction. If the agitator doesn't oscillate, or the drive pulley won't turn in the clockwise direction, you will need to repair or replace the transmission. Read More...
