Manufacturer Part Number: WPW10498900

The Arm Spray is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. This component is crucial in the dishwasher's ability to effectively clean dishes, as it distributes water evenly throughout the unit during a wash cycle. Located beneath the upper rack, the arm spray rotates and sprays water at a controlled pressure and angle, ensuring that all dishes, regardless of their placement, are thoroughly washed.

Causes of a bad arm spray include clogging from food particles or mineral deposits from hard water, physical damage that can prevent it from spinning, and wear that reduces the effectiveness of the spray holes.

Symptoms of a bad arm spray include:

  • Dishes remain dirty or spotty after washing
  • Decreased water pressure in the spray
  • Unusual noise during operation as the arm struggles to rotate

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Answer

Robert Turner, a little trick I always used. When I was trying to see if the spray arms are working properly, open the door and turn the spray arms so that they point towards the door. Start the dishwasher and let it run for a few seconds and open the door if the spray arms are still pointed at the door, the arms are not turning and there is a problem with the wash motor or diverter motor. It takes hot water, good detergent and spray arm movement to get a good wash. Also, check the filter screens and the sump area to see if food is blocking water flow. There should be a tech sheet behind the bottom toe panel that will allow you to check the operation of all the components.
