Customer Questions and Answers for Surface Burner Valve (Simmer 270) by Whirlpool

4.89 (64)
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: OEM18041901
Manufacturer Part Number: WP9757218

This surface burner valve regulates gas flow to a top burner on your gas range or cooktop. The simmer version enhances low-heat control so the flame adjusts smoothly from a steady simmer to a full boil. What it does:

  • Regulates gas to the surface burner as you turn the knob, controlling flame size
  • Simmer variant improves stable low-flame performance at lower settings
  • Common failure symptoms: burner won't light though the igniter sparks, flame won't adjust or stays at one level
  • Knob feels stiff/binds or the stem no longer aligns correctly with settings
What's included:
  • 1 surface burner valve
Install notes:
  • Disconnect electrical power and shut off the gas supply before servicing
  • Remove the control knob and access the valve/manifold from the control panel or cooktop top
  • Note the original valve's orientation for your burner position; transfer mounting hardware as needed and tighten all gas connections securely
  • After reassembly, restore gas and check every joint for leaks with an approved leak-detection solution; verify proper flame and adjustment

Answer

Rachelle, First you need to know which burner valve you need : WP8273004 is the right rear burner valve and WP9757218 for the remaining three(3) burner valves. To replace the valve is a relatively easy procedure,Unplug the power cord, turn off the gas supply at the wall shut off. Remove the grates, burner caps and anything else on the cook top. You'll need to remove the two phillips head screws from each burner base, lift the burner base up and label and disconnect the wire from the igniter. Then raise the top and remove the manifold panel and gas valve. We're going to send you some more information. Good Luck and Thanks
