By: Whirlpool
Part Number: OEM9283632
Manufacturer Part Number: 285805

The Water Inlet Valve is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. It controls the flow of hot and cold water into the washer. This component is crucial for starting the wash cycle, as it opens to allow water to enter and closes to stop the flow once the appropriate level is reached, ensuring efficient wash performance.

Causes of a bad Water Inlet Valve can include mineral deposits and sediment build-up, which can obstruct the flow of water, or mechanical failure such as a broken solenoid that prevents the valve from opening or closing properly.

Symptoms of a bad Water Inlet Valve include:

  • Water not filling the tub at the beginning of the cycle
  • Water leaking from the valve
  • Washer not starting due to inability to fill
  • Unusual noises from the valve area during operation

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Pokey Joe for Model Number LA5580XSW2

I installed this today. The original inlet valve was attached to the bracket so when you secured the bracket everything was tight. With this replacement model, the valve and bracket are separate. I can install and secure the bracket with the original screws but the inlet valve itself is just kind of hanging there. There is no hole for the extra screw provided, not sure where it would go anyway. I figure when I attach it to the hoses they will keep it in place but this doesn't seem quite right. Any ideas on what I might have done wrong?

Answer

Hello Pokey Joe, The screw is used to mount the valve to the new bracket. Put the two inlet ports where the hoses will screw onto the valve through the bracket and slide it until the holes line up for the bracket and the plastic hole made at the end of the valve. The existing screws are then used to mount the bracket to the rear panel of the machine.
