How to Troubleshoot & Replace Bosch AP4324453 / 00667489 Door Boot Gasket

Fixing this was pretty straightforward for an average (non-mechanical) guy like me: Remove the washer door, remove the front panel, and remove the front washer drum weights. Obviously remove the old door boot gasket. Getting the new gasket on is tricky business, but with patience I was able to fit it around the washer drum opening and put the wire in place to secure it. 

I purchased the gasket, watched a few YouTube videos and replaced the faulty gasket.

Removed the washer door, control panel and front panel. Setting the retaining rings in place was impossible without improvising. 

Replaced the gasket 

This replacement was not technically challenging...but it was a first for me. First, I went to You Tube and saw a video of a similar replacement. First, remove power, then remove top control panel, door, and the front panel...each only has a few screws to remove...with polydrive?? heads. You will need to remove the outer support ring prior to removing front panel. Removing gasket and inner ring was no issue. The tub counter weights had to be loosened for the reinstallation of the new gasket and inner ring. The installation of the stainless steel rings provided in the order were the only impediments of doing this job. Each had very tight 3" long springs which need to be stretched out a bit prior to installation. These were the impediments of the installation. (Perhaps a stronger person could have installed them easier.) Once inner ring was installed, retighten counter weights. Replace front panel and connect the gasket on panel. Again, the installation of the outer ring spring is the biggest issue to the job. Once on...reinstall door and top panel and you are done. While it took me 2+ hours, an experience person could do the job in under an hour. 

Fix completed and part was perfect fit for the Bosch/Seimen washer. A little help and a little blood from the metal edges of the cabinet and we were done with no drips or errors. I wish the German engineers were as good at making required maintenance repairs easier as they are at making long lasting products. 

YOUTUBE! I can do anything with youtube!! LOL. Can be a little confusing trying to find a matching model. But, I checked out a couple and it was not too hard to adapt. Reconnecting hoses was a little hard because it was a long reach, and a little cramped, but in the end not too difficult. While I was there, I replaced the door seal. That was actually a little harder, as I had to take more of the washer apart. Not too bad, would be easy to do again. I couldn't get the spring on the outer seal to work, but the old one went on easy, and seems to seal well. It took a little longer than doing the pump. 

Took less than an hour. Could of used an extra hand. 

I made the mistake of blowing low pressure air in drain line due to error code stating line was clogged. With the thought that the power outage and now inoperative machine function, I thought I was on the right track of thought. I blew the rubber bellowed line from air pressure. Ordered a new one which arrived quickly. Not the problem, motor ran but did not eject water. After taking the rug cleaner to suck out water, I realized the impeller was not spinning, and seemed loose. I reached in with a pair of pliers and removed the impeller. The metal shaft showed signed of stress and metal fatigue. A sliver of connection was seen and realized pump failed from normal wear. I ordered a new pump, installed it and now the wife is very happy. I also ordered a new door seal and will install later, when the wife gives the marching order.
