How to Troubleshoot & Replace Frigidaire AP2107128 / 131553800 Drive Belt

First off, I am amazed at how well my 26 year old Frigidaire FDG747RBS0 dryer has held up being it is 26 years old. The drum was turning sluggishly as if the belt was slipping, there were some unusual noises during use, and the dryer was taking much longer to dry clothes. I figured as long as I was going to replace the belt, I may as well replace the rear bearing, the front felt glide, the lower felt glide/seal, and the blower seal. I'm glad I did that! Appliance Parts Pros had the best prices, and only took one day for parts to arrive. I am an experienced handyman so replacing these parts was a piece of cake for me to do. Since I had the dryer drum out, I thoroughly cleaned out all the lint dust from every nook and cranny inside the chassis. Now my dryer is working great again, hoping to get a few more years of service out of it. 

Removed the dryer top, then removed the front panel, and then removed the access panel on the rear. The belt was then easy to remove, and easy to install the new one. Vacuumed out the whole interior, there was a 15 year accumulation of dust and fuzz. Reassembled all of the panels and tested. Perfect! Watch out for sharp sheet metal edges though, I'm still wearing bandages. Should have worn gloves. 

About a year ago , I took it apart and greased the bearing . You Tube has videos that show how . That fixed it until the squealing came back a couple days ago . This time I decided to change the bearing , the belt looked dry and cracking , so I ordered both . The screeching may have been from the plastic bearing wearing down to the metal bracket . I may have been able to grind down the metal bracket , but the plastic bearing is cheap enough . I changed both and no more screeching , I kept the old belt for a spare . Mine has a small metal ball that I think centers the drum in the middle of the bearing , be careful not to lose that . It's a little tricky to get the 2 metal brackets back together , one from the front and one from the back , but not too bad . I used some grease to hold the metal ball in place until I got a screw started in the rear bracket . 

I simply followed the video that Appliance Parts Pros included on their website with the belt that I needed. The repair was surprisingly easy and saved me about $140.00 over calling an appliance repair service. 

I gave the parts to my son and he repaired dryer in about an hour. Dryer works fine. I got my parts in two days. really fast. 

Replaced the rear deum bearing (and the belt, since I had to take it off anyway). This is a 20 year old machine and the repair returned to like-new operation. I expect to get another 20 years out of it. Very satisfied. 

Replaced the rear mount, front seals and glide. Also replaced the belt, heating element and thermostat. Should last many more years now. Thanks for the videos. They helped supplement the service manual.
