How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP2041905 / WE1X688 Clamp And Screw Kit

Watched video showing how to replace blower wheel clamps. Demonstration was excellent but actual procedure was not as easy as depicted (to be expected). Encountered two difficulties. Reinstalling the belt was tough; the idler wheel torsion spring is very strong and hard to reach. Also, the new clamps do not fit very tightly on the motor shaft flat. I added a shim to the front clamp to improve the fit, but the wheel can still be rotated about 15 degrees on the shaft. I wrapped masking tape on the motor shaft to create a friction fit to the inside diameter of the blower wheel. Suspect that this is a design flaw and the reason the original clamps failed in the first place. Also the motor shaft is worn (grooved) just as discussed in the video. 

Ordered part from Appliance Parts Pro and replaced the broken part, now dryer works fine. 

Disassembled the blower section. Removed the old blower wheel. Reinstalled the new blower wheel, and reassembled the blower. All replacement parts matched exactly, so the project went well. 

I took it apart once using the videos I found online which were very informative and easy to follow. I merely put it back together with the old materials and I didn’t even notice the clip brackets that clamp the wheel to the motor shaft were worn. It worked perfectly for about a week or two then it started failing again. I payed a little more attention to the video and seen the error in my assessment. I quickly ordered the new wheel and clamp brackets and had it fixed the very next day. I payed for next day shipping and it was worth it as I still had wet clothes in the drum of the dryer. I replaced upper bearing and glides also replaced the blower wheel and retaining clips . There was two grooves cut into the motor shaft so bad that a common C clip fit in the groove of the shaft to hold the wheel in place I put the C clips on both sides of the blower wheel. 

I took it apart and inspected the problem.... I found the blower blade was flopping the lock clamp was broken in half.... and the drive belt was cracked and about to break. I ordered all the parts from appliance parts pros and went for the speedy shipping.... The parts were supposed to arrive Weds. but did not get here until Thursday. I cleaned and inspected the whole dryer and put it all back together in about 2 hours.... I found I could see things better with the rear access removed and also found taping the belt to the drum I could put it back together by myself. All the parts were genuine GE and even with the s/h came out cheaper than buying locally. I did try to buy locally but the dealer did not have all the parts and estimated it would take a week to get them. I was able to order all 3 parts and got them a day late but in only 2 days time. The Dryer is purring nicely and the wife is happy once again.

Ordered a new Blower Wheel and Clamp kit, Got the parts the next day, (Very fast response and Shipping! followed "U-tube" Video, replaced said Parts, reassembled Dryer, Repair was a success.

First diagnosed the issue and made sure that the blower fan was the problem. Once I was sure that it was I ordered the necessary parts plus I noticed that the drum bearing and sliders needed replacing also and ordered the kit. While I waited for the parts to come in I removed the top, front door panel, drum, loosened motor, removed old fan and hardware,cleaned and vacuumed all the dryer and vents. Afterwards I put everything back together without tightening the hardware so I would be able to quickly disassemble when the parts came in and reassemble afterwards. It took about 2 hours because of the extra parts and took a rag to clean the caked on lint that the vacuum didn't clean the first time. Runs like new. Also delivery of parts took only a couple days.
