I have replaced the front bearing and slide a few times but when the drum wore out the front bearing Ina matter of a few weeks I figured it must be the rear bearing that needed replacement. My GE gas dryer is about 15 years old. I figured as long as it was apart for that repair I would replace some cracked and heat worn plastic parts. I probably didn't need to replace the trap duct but thought it might be playing a role in my accelerated front bearing wear. The rear bearing is a job but not terrible. You need a second pair of hands to mount the new bearing. The worst part of the job for me was getting my hands and arms in the case to get the belt on. It now works perfectly. Have a shop vac for all the dust and stuff. Amazing that these things don't burn up with all that lint and fuzz near an open flame.
