How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP3647189 / WR02X10098 Evaporator Fan Grommet

R/R fan motor, grommets, and fan blade. Longest part of the job was cleaning/vacuuming coils. Could have reused the old fan blade but elected to just replace it. Recommend replacing grommets as they wear over time which creates a loose motor mount. This probably contributed to fan motor wear. 

Replaced motor and rubber grommets. 

After a lot of research on internet we thought it might be the condenser fan motor . we were a but confused as frig still working and cooling. I had imagined if motor gone bad it would just stop . However on taking back off frig we could see fan sometimes slowed and then began loud "animal " squeaking noise ! Although the back bottom of our fridge was relatively open it was very tricky to ease out fan and motor. Fortunately I had also ordered fan and grommet as fan was almost impossible to remove and had to be pretty forcefully bent and grommet was disintegrating as was very brittle. They had to be removed to put new motor in the holding brace. It was still quite awkward to wriggle new fan and motor back in . However frig has now stopped squeaking and touch wood is working fine ! Fridge is about 14 years old . We did go to look for a new frig in case we couldn't fix the problem but annoyingly shelf etc " improvements " have been designed which aren't what we want . Parts were sent very fast and exactly right fit . second repair made using your company . Thank you very much . 

I pulled the unit forward and heard the fan hitting the fan enclosure as it was trying to spin. I started disassembling the fan unit, took down the refrigerator model number and looked online for the parts. AppliancePartsPros made it really easy to find the parts and I love the fact that the assembly drawings are available as well. Ordering the parts was just as easy and delivery was very prompt. I am impressed!!! I think i could have got away with just changing the fan grommets but decided to change the fan motor as well. 

1. Unplug the power, 2. Removed the shelving and Ice maker including power cord, 3. Removed the air flow conduits, 4. Removed the back panel, 5. Removed evaporator fan housing and drop down then un clip power supply and remove evaporator fan housing and all and set on a flat surface, 6. Remove the upper bracket holding in evaporator and remove evaporator fan ( be sure to remove the fan blade you'll need it for the new motor ) 7. Popped out the old grommets ( I replaced both since I was there ) and pop in the new grommets, 8. Placed the new motor into the housing and replace the upper bracket ( Don't forget to put the fan blade on the new motor ) 9. Reconnect the power supply to the motor and mount the housing, 10. Replaced and mount the back panel, 11. Replaced and mount the air flow conduits, 12. Replaced and reconnected Ice maker and shelving, and finally plug unit in and it works better than ever. 

Replaced the motor and one grommet. Should have bought 2 grommets. Fairly easy repair. 

Ice cream was soft, items were not freezing all the way. We found that the motor had stopped and the unit was hot. The air was still flowing but the fan was stopped. We bought the grommets because the old ones are really hard to separate from the motor and the fan was just gross. They were gummed up by the years of dust and moisture back there, way easier to replace those when you replace the motor. Used a compressed air can to clean out the other parts and everything is working well. It is dirty back there if you don't pull it apart and clean it regularly. 

Condenser fan motor sounded like a dying animal. Ordered a new motor, fan blade and grommets. The fridge sounds so much better, it's hard to tell it's on. Took 20 minutes, most of it cleaning. 

I watched an AppliancePartsPros.com YouTube video, went on their website, and ordered the parts. The parts were genuine GE. I also called customer/technical service to answer a question about the direction the fan was supposed to spin. WE REPLACED THE FAN MOTOR, FAN, MOUNTING BRACKETS, AND GROMMETS.
