How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP3672220 / WR02X11331 Grommet, Fan Motor

Because I have had to replace this fan before, the process goes pretty fast.. I am impressed with AppliancePros for a number of reasons, the price for componets is always cheaper that other major parts suppliers. They go to great length to insure all ordered parts are shipped and in a timely fashion.. Also the live tutorials are a great help for the Doit yourselfer.. 

Opened up the back of the freezer compartment to locate the evaporator fan motor. It was determined that the fan blade was unbalanced due to the fact that it had been hitting the wiring and had worn off part of the blades. The Grommets looked a little worn also. As a side note, I had to replace the fan motor as well. Totally surprised, ordered parts on Nov.10 and received parts on Nov. 11 

Determined that the evaporator fan in the freezer compartment was not running properly and making noise. Ordered a replacement evaporator fan and blade. Removed the freezer door, baskets, and side rails. Removed the back panel of the freezer compartment by unscrewing and disconnecting the power cable connected to the fan. Removed fan blade. Turned over the panel and removed the back fan bracket and fan. Installed replacement fan, back fan bracket, and fan blade. The grommets ordered were the incorrect part for this fan so I did leave the existing grommets in place. Reattached fan cable to power cable in the back of the freezer compartment and inserted panel. Re-installed the rails, and freezer door, then baskets. Pl PB975SM2SS plugged in the freezer and let run overnight until back to operating temperature. 

Replaced the motor and fan. 

Replaced fan motor, fan and grommets. It's nice an quiet now. I want to thank you for the super fast delivery. 

Problem was grommet which is no longer blue and has be redesigned, It is now grey in color and looks more robust. I opted to replace the fan motor, blade and both grommets, but it was pretty apparent the front blue grommet was the problem. 

Replaced parts. Went well. Only problem there are a lot of nuts to loosen. 

This fan replacement is a fair amount of work. The entire slide out drawer has to be removed and all the plastic covers on rear of the unit. A lot of dissassembly. when you put the drawer back in you have to recalibrate the slide depth to get a perfect seal on the drawer or it will leak air and frost up. I had to re-adjust slide depth due to air leak and ice build up. 

The noise seemed to be coming from the upper freezer compartment. I slid out the ice collecting bucket which allowed partial visual of the evaporator motor fan. It was spinning rather slowly and appeared to have a slight wobble to it. I ordered the evaporator motor ( AP3191003) and 2 mounting grommets (AP3647189). I followed APP's instructional repair video for the freezer compartment for disassembly and assembly. Within 3 or 4 hours the refrigerator was at 30 deg.F and the freezer was <0 deg. F. I had to manually lower the thermostats settings to achieve the desired temperature35 to 37 deg.F for the frig and 0 to 5 deg. for the freezer. Very happy with APP for excellent videos and ease of ordering parts. 

Replaced the evaporator fan.
