How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP2047612 / WH45X10027 Inner Tub Mounting

Watched appliance parts repair video on youtube. Ordered the new hub and replaced it. Only trouble i had was the hub nut being rusted on the shaft. Took a chisel, cut it off being carful not to damage shaft threads. Cleaned the shaft with wire brush. New nut went on easy. Now the washer works good as new for a lot less money. 

1st: Removed the front washer cover. 2nd: Remove the upper washer lid. 3rd: Remove the control panel assembly. 4th: Remove the tub dampening straps 5th: Remove the Tub straight up and out. Once the Tub was out, I had to chisel the Hub Nut in half. This was also corroded onto the motor shaft. Cleaned all metal pieces from the Main Tank. Checked the pump motor with a magnet for any metal that would have falling into water drain port. Re-assembled and tightened the Hub Nut, this is left handed threads. Everything turned out Supper, Machine works like NEW! 

I researched how to fix it and ordered the inner tub mounting hub and hub nut based on all the others that had done it before and then followed the instructions to disassemble it and reassemble it. It was very easy to fix and it is as good as new again. Thanks to the parts bought at appliancepartspros.com because they were substantially cheaper than everyone else. 

Presumably from just the "right" combination of detergent and water (we have well water), I had a complete disintegration and separation of the Inner Tub Mounting Hub. It was running a load of towels at the time and sounded like we had come under attack. Simply pulling up the agitator quickly revealed the extent of the problem. A couple of quick YouTube searches, 5 minutes looking for the right parts, and a simple ordering of the known/suspect/better replace it while I have apart parts, and I was on my way to a simple fix! The longest part of the whole ordeal was my wife and taking the opportunity to clean all the gunk off of the various parts - and wonder how in the world was it that our clothes were being "cleaned" in all that?! Disclaimer: I work in the maintenance field and have an extensive amount of tools, so this made the job beyond simple for me. 

I followed the instructions on the video, removed the old mounting hub, installed the new one. After reading several comments, I also got the hub nut. As with others, my hub nut was corroded and would not screw off. I'm glad I ordered it, as I had to chisel the old one off in pieces (this is what took me the most time). The removal and replacement didn't take long, but the chiseling did. Then I cleaned up the parts - a lot of gunk builds up over the years. Also, parts came faster than anticipated and were cheaper than Amazon. 

The mystery of appliance repair has been solved... thanks to the Appliance Parts Pros videos! After watching a few videos, I was able to replace the cracked tub hub, hub washer, hub split ring and hub nut. The only "hitch" I encountered was a frozen hub nut that, over the years of use, had fused itself to the hub shaft, making it necessary to chisel the nut free. Other than that, everything went as predicted and the parts fit perfectly. My trusty GE clothes washer is now working smoother and quieter than it has for years! 

My washing machine wouldn't agitate or spin. I pulled the agitator out and saw that the Inner hub was broken. It was difficult to tell whether the Inner hub was part of the spinner basket or a separate unit and nobody really spelled that out in any of the repair reviews that I read. Once I pulled the spinner basket out I found that the hub was indeed a separate unit that screws onto the bottom of the spinner basket from underneath. It was a relatively easy fix that only cost $64.00 replacing the hub and the hub but. The repair videos on YouTube were a big help. 

The inner tub mounting hub was corroded. I couldn't take the hub nut off so I had to chisel it out. In the process I damaged some of the threads of the hub. The new hub nut could not go on! I had to re-thread the hub but nobody could tell me what the thread pitch was, even called GE and they did not know or couldn't tell me! I figured it out myself and bought a 1-1/4"-12 left hand die and fixed the threads. Put it all back together and the washer works like new. 

During a spin dry I hear a loud bang and some other disturbing noises. It looked as though my washer died. Using guides I found that the inner tub mounting hub virtually disintegrated from age, corrosion, etc. I started looking a a new washer but I wasn't happy about spending $600+ for a replacement. AppliancePartsPros had the parts I needed in stock. On to the repair. The hub nut had seized to the shaft so I had to use a nut splitter to remove it. With most of the washer apart it was a good opportunity power wash the inner basket etc. My parts arrived in two days. The only issue I had was that some chips from the hub got into the pump. I easily removed the pump and cleared the debris. One side note-somehow I ordered two of each part. When I realized this I contacted support 5 min before closing, and they cleared it up for me. Outstanding! 

I followed the process depicted in the video. I had anticipated the hub nut would be a challenge so I was sure to have one handy. The spanner wrench would not remove the nut, even after applying several applications of liquid wrench. In fact the center part of the spanner wrench separated after @ an hour or so of use. I ended up using a cold chisel to carefully break and remove the hub nut without damaging the threads. I wire brushed the threads and carefully cleaned the area of any debris. The process from start to finish was about 4 hours, with about 2 hours spent on trying to remove the hub nut. I suggest additional videos on alternative methods for removing stubborn hub nuts. With the exception of the spanner wrench, the pricing was excellent and delivery was prompt.
