Before I did anything else, I straightened the heating element so that it had the required clearance. After I realized I would be unable to repair/patch the existing spray arm, I purchased the replacement part. Once it was delivered, (in a timely manner I might add), I unscrewed the old one, screwed in the new one, and started washing dishes.
One another note, I will mention that the replacement came with an extra part to retro-fit an older model machine. Since mine is almost 15 years old, I was slightly boggled that my machine did not require the additional part. My only guess is that it was retro-fit long ago before we purchased this house.
