How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP2617404 / WD35X10011 Spray Arm Assembly

The new utensil basket now means we can load it without watching out for holes. After our spray arm cracked and starting coming apart we decided to check if we could possibly find a replacement part and were happy we found one at this site. Replacing it was easy - I simply had to unscrew the old spray arm and screw in the new one. I ended up not needing the collar that the spray arm screws into - you only need that if your spray arm currently screws in backwards from what is conventional (conventional is when it goes lefty-loosey, righty-tighty). The new spray arm has turned our dishwasher back into the super duper cleaning machine of yesteryear! I can't believe how well it cleans now. The Rack Slide End Cap makes it so our top rack doesn't slide out of its track anymore, which is also a great relief. 

Had to replace tho old spray arm with the new part which has a recessed pop up, The recessed pop up provides clearance to accommodate a current (newer) design lower rack. Removed the old spray arm and installed the new spray arm according to the provided instructions. Most difficult step was to pull out the unit to replace the couple at the motor/pump by lowering the motor. Straight forward but involved. Involvement included disconnecting water supply line, drain line and electric. Motor/pump unit dropped easily and change out of the couple was simple. Took me more than 2 hours because it was my first time ... could repeat in about 1 hour if I did it again. 

Replaced the lower Spray Arm Assembly. 

Replaced it with this part only took 5 minutes to replace. 

Ordered replacement part based on model #. Part was damaged on taking delivery but was not critical on the install. 

Replaced assembly 

I replaced the lower spin arm and the pump boot. 

Replaced spray arm assembly, it's a different style than what was in the dishwasher but it's an easier style to work with. I also ordered support assembly and did not need it,spray arm assembly was all I needed. 

Before I did anything else, I straightened the heating element so that it had the required clearance.After I realized I would be unable to repair/patch the existing spray arm, I purchased the replacement part. Once it was delivered, (in a timely manner I might add), I unscrewed the old one, screwed in the new one, and started washing dishes. One another note, I will mention that the replacement came with an extra part to retro-fit an older model machine. Since mine is almost 15 years old, I was slightly boggled that my machine did not require the additional part. My only guess is that it was retro-fit long ago before we purchased this house.
