How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6009587 / WP489483 Screw

Ordered the parts, took door off the refrigerator. Removed all parts and replace with new parts. Took me about 15 minutes to complete. 

Replaced upper and lower door cams. 

Initially thought that the lower door hinge needed an adjustment after 13 years of use. After further investigation and research, the upper and lower door closure cams needed replacing. I ordered parts on a Monday afternoon with standard shipping and they arrived the next day! The videos on how to replace these parts allowed me to lay out everything I needed to make the repair. Prep and clean up (gather tools, remove items from door shelves to a cooler, etc.) took longer than the actual repair. Required only two tools to switch out old and new cams. Door now operates as if new! 

Replaced the door cams on the door and on the hinge and now the door closes properly. 

Perfection!! Parts were exactly what I needed. The accompanying video helped greatly. Door closes correctly now.

Fixed my self 

Originally I assumed it was the seal. I am renting and this appliance was already here. I bought a new seal without considering the door might be unbalanced or uneven. The seal didn't work. $125 lesson learned. Still perplexed, I did some more research and happened upon an article mentioning the ‘cam”. I looked at the freezer door and noticed a cam in the freezer door AND the refrigerator cabinet. I checked the refrigerator door and noticed there was no cam on the refrigerator door... I immediately ordered the parts and as soon as I installed them, YAHTZEE!!. Good seal and cooler frig! Probably didn’t need the screws but I’m glad I changed them. 

Installed new door cam, both top and bottom.
