How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP4008541 / 12001562 Lower Bearing Assembly

I STARTED BY REPLACING THE TUB SEAL AND BEARING BUT STILL HAD THE PROBLEM SO TORE IT ALL DOWN AND REPLACED THE LOWER BEARING, SNUBBER RING BRAKE ROTOR AND THRUST BEARING. I AM 77 YEARS OLD AND IT TOOK ME AWHILE TO DO IT ALL. IT RUNS AND SOUNDS LIKE A NEW MACHINE NOW AND MY WIFE IS HAPPY. THANKS FOR THE DO-IT-YOURSELF HELP. JKH 

Replaced upper bearing. the bottom bearing was replaced as to assure smooth operation 

I replaced the tub & pulley bearing with no issues. WIth the right tools and the expert help on the AppliiancePartsPros.com YouTube repair video made it very simple. 

I replace the thrust bearing kit and the lower bearing assembly. The washing machine is working so far. I am so glad that Appliance Parts Pros makes a video showing how to do the repair. Thank you Appliance Parts Pros. 

Replaced bearing. 

I replaced these parts along with the tub seal kit (it contains the upper bearing), suspension springs and the drive belt. The root failure cause was failure of the tub seal, which allowed a slow leak of water into the upper bearing causing it to fail. The upper bearing became the noise source. All the other parts, this one included were replaced on a preventative basis. The lower bearing was failing but hadn’t gone out completely. Springs and snubber ring were replaced to improve shaking and squeaking that had occurred in the past during spin cycle, but weren’t related to the bearing noise. When I placed my order with APP, the tub seal kit was out of stock. I would have ordered it also, but had to seek another source. Appliance Parts Pros had the best service, as all of my parts from them were delivered promptly. The other source had poorer service and I had to wait two more days for my tub seal kit, even though I ordered everything at the same time. That’s a long time to wait when your family’s clothes washer is down for repairs. All in all, I spent just over $200 for parts and renewed my 14-year-old washer. That’s a lot better than spending $700+ for a new one.

(Yes, I had my laptop in the garage with me during the repair.) Their videos are excellent, professional, very easy to follow, step-by-step. I'm just a retired mailman. Never opened up a washing machine before. But after watching the video once I decided I couldn't lose. I tore my machine apart and put it back together as if I'd been doing it all my life. They have all the parts you could need. I paid for 3-day delivery, but I got them in 2 days. I can't wait for the washing machine to break again! 

Maytag washer is 20 years old. I used the diagnosis section of the website. Orders thrust bearing kit, pump, lower main bearing, belt, and snubber ring. The diagnosis was right on. I thought I would be sending some parts back, but I needed all. The installation videos are great!! They saved me time and kept me safe from the 200-pound force brake spring! Thanks for the great repair and savings from buying a new washer/dryer. I use to be in appliance repair 40 years ago. Nice to know I have not lost that ability. After removing drive belt found pump shaft would not turn, ordered a new pump and replaced...took about 15 minutes, easy access.
