How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6016191 / WPW10170080 Stand Mixer Front Sleeve Bearing

Replaced the planetary and a couple other wear parts will I had it apart. Shaft bushing, thrust bearing and sleeve bushing. Haven’t put it to the test of the wife’s cookie dough yet. Hope this speaks the trick with holidays right around the corner. 

I replaced the planetary, shaft bearing and a few of the gears. I also put a bunch of grease around the gears. We have used this mixer regularly for the past 15 years and I did a pretty extensive overhaul. The only thing I wasn’t able to do is figure out how to make the mixer quieter. I wish they had a part for that. Appliance parts pros is the best. Great videos with plenty of close ups and tips on how to make the repair. Simple tools needed, nothing fancy (except the snap ring pliers). Parts got to me within a couple days. 

Replaced bearings and thrust washers. Messy, but easy. Fresh bread today! 

I replaced both front & rear sleeve bearings along with the shaft bearing to improve stability of rotation of all gears. I also found the vertical shaft bearing had worked itself out of the housing and was sitting on top of the bevel gear rather than pressed into housing. I reinstalled the vertical shaft TOP bearing into the housing and "pressed" it in with a hammer and socket extension. I then cleaned all parts and the housing and installed new grease into the proper places. Upon reassembly, the machine was run at slow speed to ensure all things meshed properly. The machine was then run at top speed for 5 minutes without issue. I would have 'bought" more parts, like vertical shaft and planetary gears BUT the prices are too expensive and a 'refurbished' unit can be purchased from KitchenAid with a warranty for far less than the parts cost! Being a manufacturing engineer, it is sad to see the 'mark-up' on piece parts as it tends to make repair unreasonable and wastes a lot of good material into the landfill! Thanks for working to keep the prices reasonable and hopefully, dropping the price will create MORE repair business rather than throwing away the old to buy new or refurbished systems. 

Checked YouTube repair videos for steps to dismantle mixer. I went to your site to look at the parts diagram and ordered only needed parts. The parts were delivered within a couple of days. The mixer is working great now. Thanks. 

Repair went well 

Replaced motor (armature shaft worn). Replaced counter shaft and associated bearings. Replaced grease. Added benefit: Reduced noise by 50%... 

Watched a few videos- ordered & replaced the gears & planetary. 

Took top of mixer and inspected gears. Ordered replacement gears from AppliancePartsPros. 

It's an unfortunate fact that part of the price of owning a KitchenAid Pro 600 is the cost and effort of occasionally replacing gears. This is at least the 2d time I've replaced the worm follower gear, and in fact the one I ordered this time was a replacement for one I had on hand, anticipating that I would need it again. In fact, I keep replacement parts for most of the gears in the transmission as well as some of the bearings. Fortunately APP doesn't charge too much for them, and the repair only takes an hour or so when you have the parts on hand. As others have noted, the only specialized tool you need for this job is snap ring pliers.
