How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6007087 / WP230131 Dryer Door Cable

By following instructions from website and own ingenuity. 

I replaced the wire and wire connector. Nothing to it once I got the back off the dryer. Your normally quick delivery was slow this time. Something about a three day long blizzard stopping all traffic seems to have interfered. Appreciate getting exactly the right part. 

Since this happened before on the other side, I saved the part numbers for the spring and cable. There were instructions online how to replace it. I had someone help and it was done in a few minutes. The dryer is old but still works. This was an inexpensive fix rather than buying a new dryer right now. 

Replaced with the new ones. 

My son in law watched the video's that you supplied with my email. He took the door apart and with needle nose pliers, removed the broken part. Then replaced it with the #22 part that went with my dryer. Seeing that he had a migraine we put off dismantling the front of the dryer to repair the door catch at a later date. Thank you for your great service.

After over 2 hours and a call to your tech dept. I was able to figure out that the springs attach to the top of the panel, not the bottom as your techs said. Once I had this figured out, everything came together very well. Unfortunately your techs had NO idea what they were talking about. Sorry( and he had to check with another tech, twice.) 

The door latch I just had to pop it into place so that the door will stay shut. The Lint Filter I just had to insert it. Now with the new Lint Filter with its handle makes it a lot easier to take it out of its position to clean it. The old Lint Filter's handle was broken so it was hard to take it out of its position to clean it. The cable and spring is for the inside of the right side of the door. With the left side cable and spring in place it was still easy to open and shut the door. But when I installed the right side of the door with a new cable and spring the door now has better tension so that it can be opened and held in different positions. To install the new cable and spring I attached the cable to the spring, took off the top of the dryer and looked down inside to see how the left side cable and spring was attached. When I saw how it was attached from the door to the top of the dryer frame I dangled the cable that I attached to the spring and with a pair of long needle nose pliers I was able to grab the cable as it was dangling in front of the hole that is located on the front of the dryer with the long needle nose pliers and pulled it through while holding onto the spring. (It took me about 7 or 8 minutes to be able to grab the cable and pull it through the hole). I then installed the cable into the hole on the back of the door and then I stretched the cable so that I could attach it to the dryer frame. 

Release two clips using a putty knife and raise the top. Support top. Remove two screws at upper right and left of cabinet. Tilt front forward enough to install new cable to door. Connect end of cable to spring. Close cabinet, re install the two screws, remove top support, and close top. Done!!
