How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP5951296 / W10721967 Drive Clutch Kit

Bearing failed in gear case. Purchased gear case assembly, only option. Found a good video on YouTube that covers the complete repair. Lengthy repair but straightforward. Hardest part was separating the drum from drive shaft since it was seized from years of use.

Bought this transmission repair kit for the model we have and my husband had it up and running in less than an hour 

Found problem. looked up fix online. Clicked on AppliancePartsPros. Put in make to search. Clicked on model. Found part from list. Read other customers stories with same problem. Ordered part on Monday. Was delivered Tuesday on standard delivery. Was working 30 minutes later with no noise. I will definately use these guys for ALL future appliance parts. Saved us a lot of money and time for the do-it-yourselfer. Thank you! 

Tightened splutch pulley nut. Ordered new parts as spares for future failure of this assembly. 

I went on to the APP site and looked for reports of a similar problem. I verified that the cam was bad and then I watched a UTube video on how to replace the cam. It was a simple repair. I also got a new drive belt, which is much tighter than the one I removed. It seems as though it might be a little too tight but we'll see how it goes. It may stretch a bit and reduce the side load on the bearings. It was an easy fix that took about 15 Mins. 

Replaced sensor along with a new belt and also clutch kit. 

Changed out the splutch cam kit, drive belt and shift actuator. Easy job after watching the videos and washer is working great. 

By watching well created videos on AppliancePartsPros.com and taking their advice as to what typically causes noise and washing failure! Great website!!! Replaced the splutch kit parts and put on a new belt. Only difficulty I had was the splutch kit did not go on right the first time. I had to unscrew the nut and hold the parts down as I was tightening the nut down. Washer sounds good as new! Thank you AppliancePartsPros.com people!!!! That repair pays for itself in 4 more weeks because I won't need to go to the laundromat!
