How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP3110929 / 482731 Refrigerator Evaporator Fan Motor Kit

Replaced motor/fan assembly 

Replace a new evaporator kid and it work like brand new refrigerator 

12 screws and 2 wires. One of the easiest repairs ever. Works great now and is super quiet! 

Completed the replacement in 45 minutes from start to finish with no issues. 

A new evaporator fan motor was installed - easy fix - the most work was emptying the freezer first. My only issue was with FedX - the part went from Albany NY to a city in Ohio to another location in Pennsylvania to Rochester NY to Eagle Bay post office. A five day trip for what could have been a 3 hr drive. 

My wife found the refrigerator part number finally after I looked for it unsuccessfully. The P/N was found in the side wall only after removing the lower left produce crisper drawer. Anyway...the part was found at appliance parts pros- was sent quickly and directions to install were too easy! Check for icebuild up between the freezer and refrigerator once this was found to be the root cause for the warming temperatures in the refrigerator. With new fan installed no more noise and temp has dropped down to the expected 35 degrees is so. 

Got new one 

This was pretty easy. First I unplugged the refrigerator and emptied the freezer. Then I removed the ice maker and back panel inside the freezer. I only used a #2 phillips screwdriver and 1/4 inch nut driver. Once the back panel was off the old motor came out easily. I swapped the electrical connectors, cleaned a bit and reassembled. Our refrigerator isn't connected to water so I left the ice maker out and now we have more room in the freezer. I think this repair took 30 minutes with additional time taken for cleaning in places I normally couldn't access. 

Original plan was to have it repaired by a appliance repair person. I called a company to come out and assess the problem. The repairman identified that I needed a new motor. I went out to the appliance website and saw that the part he spoke of cost only $39.99 yet I received an estimate in the amount of $270. I also saw the instructional video was also available. I said no to the repair man and yes to my husband for the 2nd time. Once for I do and once for I am volunteering your services. smile 

Replaced fan. Easy fix. Took only about 15 minutes with a screwdriver. Great directions.
