How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP4012072 / 12400035 Flat Style Oven Igniter Kit

With tools and a carlift. 

I initially contacted a local repairman to help us with this issue, and he said he couldn't do the work since the oven was discontinued and no parts were available. Really? So we researched the replacement part for our 20+ Maytag gas oven, and found the part here on this website. Easy transaction, and the part was delivered within a few days. We removed the old igniter and attached the new one. It was a quick and easy fix! The oven now lights up super fast! We are incredibly pleased with the purchase. 

I replaced it with a new part 

Replaced the ignitor with a new one. Problem solved. 

The original igniter on my oven went out when the appliance was 7 years old. I ordered a part from you, 14 years ago. I saved the receipt with the order information. Pulled it up, ordered, and replaced the igniter. Easy. This is one repair I am not afraid to undertake. 

The job was much easier than I expected. Lifted out the bottom tray of the oven (didn't even know it lifted out before), removed two Phillips screws holding down electrical connector cover box, two Phillips screws holding the gas bar, two 5/16ths bolts mounting igniter bracket and disconnected the igniter plug from the oven wiring plug. Reversed process to install new igniter. Part was a perfect match for old part. Works perfectly. Saved a whole lot of money on a new oven. 

I ordered a new igniter kit. I had replaced this part 6 years earlier so I was somewhat familiar with what to do. It's an old Magic Chef oven and not too hard to work on. It took maybe all of 25 minutes. I didn't have an adapter to connect the igniter to the lead on the stove so I ended up stripping the wires. All in all, a fairly easy fix. 

Replaced slimline gas igniter. 

Replaced the oven igniter. 

Replaced igniter with Flat Style Oven Igniter Kit. Repair was very simple. Didn't have to remove stove as shown in the installation video, just a cover at the back of the broiler section of the stove.
