I had to take off the door and disassemble about 75% of it, which consisted of removing a dozen phillips head screws.
The most difficult part is the reassembly because you have to line up and orient the tabs that hold the handle with the outer part of the door. It will make sense once you're into it and see what I mean. If you don't orient and line up the tabs (that swivel) correctly then the holes for the screws won't line up and you'll have to disassemble the door again to fix the misaligned tabs and repeat the process.
My advice to you is to take a magic marker and trace the outside of the door handle brackets when you're about to take off the broken handle so when you reassemble it you can just line it up perfectly.
