How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6018386 / WPW10275768 Door Latch

Very simple took about 5 minutes. Removed old part, put new one in and was done. Works great and parts arrived very fast. 

After diagnosing the problem to be our door latch, I ordered from Appliance Parts Pros. The part came in about a week. The actual repair took about 45 minutes with most of the time spent on taking the old handle off the bad latch and transferring it to the new latch. The video that was on the Appliance Parts Pros website helped in transferring the handle. Without that video, I probably would have broken the old handle. 

Replaced basket and opened door for latch assembly, then realized it is not complete kit and now need new piece. My stupid mistake not ordering right parts. 

I replaced the door latch assembly, when has 2 switches. I wasn’t sure witch one may be failing, so I replaced it instead of taking a chance with just the 2 switches. The trickiest part was putting the old handle into the new assembly. With the help of the repair video, I figured it out. You must be patient. I was very pleased and my wife was too, that I could do this without spending $200 t0 $300 for a service call. These days, I have plenty to time! 

Because the latch was broken, the dishwasher wouldn’t close and therefore wouldn’t run. We ordered the part and it arrived the next day! After watching the how-to video, we turned off the power. Then, my 8-year-old son helped me unscrew the panel on the door using a hex key. We replaced the latch, replaced the wiring, and replaced the screws on the panel. It took maybe 10 minutes. It was a great lesson for my son and an easy fix. Thank you for sending the part so quickly! I only had to hand wash one load!

Replaced door latch per instructions on the video. This repair was so straight forward, I let my 10-year-old son do this as his first supervised "solo" repair. 

I had called an appliance repair company and was given a "preliminary " cost which I deemed excessive. They wanted $99 to diagnose the problem and then the cost of the part(s) along with labor. I could see a $200 bill. After searching the web for possible repair I decided to do it myself. I have purchased other parts from AppliancePartsPros and found their videos very helpful. So the part was ordered and arrived within 5 days and it took me 15 minutes to install for the cost of the part and shipping of $44.00.
