How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6013707 / WP9705444 Retaining Pin

The main culprit of the mixer not working was the worm gear (as usual). Girlfriend was unaware of limiting the mixer's speed to 2 for bread doughs, so she wore out the worm gear. It was a family item passed down to her with zero maintenance, so it needed new gaskets, grease, o-rings, etc. anyways, so between a full re-grease and a new worm gear it runs great now. The linked video tutorials for each part were super helpful and appreciated! 

Replaced with a new pin. The unit works perfectly. 

I replaced the worm gear from AppliancePartsPros.com The replacement was a little greasy, due to the lubrication for the gears, but was an easy job. The mixer now runs quietly and worked perfectly after the repair. I saved a mixer that is worth about $350.00! 

The multiple YouTube videos available made it a pretty straight forward step-by-step repair. Not all parts were in stock. They each shipped separately, but I got them all within a 2 week period. Process went pretty smoothly. However, when I first was diagnosing, I took the motor brushes out to check their wear, and did not put them back in until I had all the gears replaced and the mixer back together. Be careful, the brushes fit only a certain way. I had them oriented wrong, and the mixer would not run. Found another YouTube video that explained and showed exactly how they needed to be. Re -oriented them and everything was great. My daughter is happy! We've attributing that all the damage to the gears was due to not using the dough hook attachment, when she should have, on heavy dough. She plans to use it from now on. Everything I've read, indicated these mixers are "horses". Hopeful it will run for many more years. 

The usual gear finally bit the dust after 15 years! The new one arrived on time and I installed it. The mixer lives! My first time fixing a Kitchen Mixer. Tony
