How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6010920 / WP74005890 Spark Electrode

Excellent exploded view from AppliancePartsPros to help identify the likely parts. The Jenn-Air stovetop burner "module" can be unplugged, and once that was done some relatively simple disassembly of the burner module with a phillips head screwdriver was all that was needed to get access to the parts. The spark igniter needs some angling to get it into place, but once done it screws back down. Be careful with the gas supply lines, on this model they're simple rigid pipes, but they do have to be re-aligned or adjusted when reassembling the module. A suggestion might be, based on the age of the stove, to include some new screws for the spark igniter. They're small and it looks like over 10 years they've worn down a bit. I spent $75 with shipping to fix a part that would have been almost $300 to replace. Well worth the effort. 

First thought the sparker at the burner was out so went to my local appliance parts store and purchased a new one for $32. This did not fix the problem. Traded the good sparker in the front with the bad one in the back and still no spark in the back but now the bad sparker is working in the front. Should have done this in the first place. Now I know it is the igniter terminal block. I then decided I can wait a week to get the part cheaper online. The original sparker from AppliancePartsPro.com was $13 compared to $32 at the local appliance parts shop. The terminal block was around $50 online so it probably would have been over $100 from the local shop. The other great thing is the Youtube instruction videos. Sorry brick and mortor, next time I will go direct to AppliancePartsPro.com. Oh, I also got the online part in 2 days without paying any extra shipping fees. Good job AppliancePartsPro. 

Ordered 2 control valves for the left burners. Works I also needed a Teflon igniter control block that sits on the control valve. Got an igniterplug assembly instead.

Replaced the Igniter for some of the surface burners 

Removed and replaced the electrode. Very simple process really. 

Self repair went great. 

Easy. Just took apart burner cartridge and re-installed. All of about 10 minutes maybe. Also Appliance Parts Pros were very helpful on phone. 

Installed replacement electrical wiring components. 

Slide out burner/tray assembly, and remove handfull of screws and two connectors. Part was direct fit, no problems.
