How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6030793 / W10897719 Water Inlet Valve

Read on you tube how to test water valve. Mine showed no resistance so I ordered new valve from Appliance parts who was the only one that had it in stock! Replaced the old with the new and Wall I now have ice. 

Replaced the intake water valve. 

A little troubleshooting found the water inlet valve not opening fully. Looked up my model number on AppliancePartsPros.com. Next day shipped the part, up and running. 

The shipped part was a perfect match for the existing valve and was easily exchanged. Shipping was fast and packaged well. 

The part worked great. A lot of times when searching it’s an old part number and they have a new part number and that can be confusing. That's something to inquire about if you can’t match the physical part number. Many times the manual has an old part number as well. 

Thought it was the inlet water valve so I ordered a new one. This site suggested a new bin thermistor as well, which I knew had been acting up as the ice bin would fill to the top if left on its own. I ordered a new thermistor as well. New water valve did not fix it. However, inside the machine I found the technician service guide. It said the flashing power light was a sign that the thermistor was bad. Replaced the thermistor and it started working. Kept the old water valve for a spare. Thanks to this site for suggesting that I might need a thermistor. 

Replaced the valve and all is quiet in the kitchen again! Very easy fix!
