I ordered an new latch, which arrived as promised the following weekend. It took a few minutes to install the new latch and spring in the slot of the microwave door due to the tight fit of this piece. But I eventually maneuvered the part into place, reinserted the plastic molded cover that goes around the latch and glass part of the door. Plugged it in, and it worked beautifully!
