How to replace Screw. I recently shattered the outer glass on my Whirlpool oven door. (Side note for lesson learned...don't swat at a fly with a broom when its on the oven door. I didnt swing hard just a love tap but thats all it took ha ha) The toughest part of the fix was removing the broken glass as it had shattered into hundreds...no thousands of pieces. Thankfully it was taped on the inside and that held some of it together. I placed the door in our garbage can and put on a pair of gloves with a scraper to remove the glass. Next I laid the door on a towell and used a scraper plus "goo gone" to remove the black glue that held the glass in place. I didnt worry much about scratches since this was on the inside of the door. The replacement glass arrived quickly from appliance parts and fir perfectly. There wasn't any glue but I noticed that the door had a lip in it that held the glass in place...plus the oven door handle screws go through the glass. To be safe I had some leftover all purpose adhesive calk that I used on there anyway. I dont know if it was needed but I had so... Everything went back together well. I had to use a tiny screw driver to assist with getting some of the screw holes to line up but other than that it was easy. I did make sure not to over tighten the handle screws as I read about some folks breaking the glass this way. 8 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 1-2 hours
