Ordered new check valve from AppliancePartsPros.com. Took off front lower panel of dishwasher. Found the old check valve. Placed flat dish under discharge hose to catch water and had two towels ready. Used channel locks to open the spring closure on the discharge hose just enough to leak water out into the dish. This took several fillings to empty. Once done, I gently unscrewed the old check valve and installed the new on. Making sure it was tight (but not obnoxiously so, it has an O ring) I replaced the discharge hose and ran the dishwasher to check for leaks. (Leave the front panel off, dish and towels at the ready.) Worked great. Kudos to AppliancePartsPros.com.
