The compressor wasn't starting on our Whirlpool refrigerator and the control panel wasn't displaying temperature settings, leading to both the fridge and freezer being very warm. It was also unresponsive when trying to set the temperature. I unplugged the fridge for 15+ minutes, two times, and the control panel still didn't work and the compressor did not start. At that point I assumed there was a problem with the control board behind the control panel, not telling the compressor to run.
I found the exact part needed in AppliancePartsPros. First step was to unplug the refrigerator. Then it was relatively simple to pop the fridge light cover off and use a screwdriver to pop the cover off the control board. After that it was simple to unplug the board, pop it out, and plug in the new board.
With the fridge plugged back in the compressor immediately started up. Last step was to set the appliance code using the instructions provided with the replacement board.
Overall it only took about 15 minutes to replace the board and get the refrigerator up and running again.
