I went online to find out what could be the problem. The freezer is 25 years old, after all, but had always worked just fine. I have ordered parts for a gas stove from Appliance Parts Pros and was able to replace the burners without calling a repairman. Although handy, I might add that I am a 72-year-old woman. The customer feedback and the video and written information on the website convinced me that this was what I needed for the freezer. By the time I was ready to order it the freezer had started! But since the freezer had never done this before I went ahead and ordered the part. I was amazed at how fast it arrived ..during a pandemic no less! I have the part taped to the side of the freezer in case the capacitor is on its last leg. The answers below are estimates since I didn't need to make the repair in the end.
