I used a swiss army knife to carefully pry in between the door and the inner bezel or frame to pull the inner bezel/frame off the door - starting on the opposite side of the hinges and working myself far enough towards the hinges so that the side of the latch comes off. Be careful to loosen all clips properly and not break them.
The old door key broke in the spot where the spring attaches to. The old one slides up and comes out. The spring needs to be looped into the new key and the key goes back the same way the old one came our - push it in upright and slide it into the two holes with the spring under tension. Be careful since there are at least two positions possible but only one works properly.
The new key is a bit beefier so it will hopefully not break as easily.
