Belt tension pulley seized and caused the dryer belt to wear out and break. It "squeeled" for a few months before eventually breaking. I did not investigate the noise, if I would have in the beginning, I would have only had to replace the pulley. Easy fix but you do need to take the washer pretty far apart to get at the belt and pulley. Hardest part to remove is a lock washer to replace the tension pulley which is done easily with lock washer pliers, otherwise it's all screws. Attaching the belt has to be done without looking, but still isn't difficult.
