My 25-year-old electric Amana dryer stopped heating. The hi-limit thermostat was scorched, and both of the black wires were scorched or completely burned through and loose. Don't know what caused the problem. I had to strip and crimp new connectors to the black wires. I installed the new part that I ordered and now everything works fine. I chose not to install the thermal fuse at this time since it tested out fine (and I couldn't get the wires off. With the dryer plugged back in and running (heat off) I blew compressed air through the heating coil intake just in case there was built-up dust. Though the dryer vent pipe hadn't been cleaned out in several years, it had just a little lint residue, so I guess that wasn't what caused the problem.
