We ordered the new element and were very careful to twist tie the wires so they would not fall back into the oven. Thank you to all who gave that idea! One wire for the outside element was very short. Once we connected the spade connectors, we removed the twist ties and pushed the element back into place. When we tested the oven, only the inside element came on, but not the outside. Exactly the opposite of the original problem. Upon removing the element again, we saw that one of the spade connectors slipped off of the outside element and was now behind the oven. My husband got out his trusty "super magnets" and with one stuck to a small screwdriver was able to drag it out again. Once back in place, now the oven works fine. We really had to smash and crimp the spade connector to get it to stay on and in place.
